How much does an online store cost in Mexico?

What each platform charges, what the payment processor keeps from every sale, shipping and photo costs, what our store package includes and when a custom store makes sense.

An online store isn’t a one-time expense. There’s the cost to build it, a monthly platform fee and a percentage of every sale kept by whoever processes the payment. To know what an online store costs in Mexico, you have to add up all three. Below are the prices each provider publishes, which we checked on October 4, 2026.

What do you pay to run an online store?

  • Building it, once: design, setup, loading products, payments and shipping.
  • The platform, every month: the software your store runs on, such as Shopify or Tiendanube, or hosting if you use WooCommerce.
  • Payments, on every sale: the fee charged by the payment processor, the service that takes card, OXXO or bank transfer payments.
  • Operations, always: shipping, packaging, photos of new products and the time of whoever handles orders.

Shopify publishes its prices for Mexico in US dollars, with a 3-day free trial followed by US$1 a month for 3 months. If you take payments with Shopify Payments, its own processor, you skip the extra fee but still pay the card rate: 3.5% + $3.00 MXN per sale on Basic, 3.4% on Grow and 3.3% on Advanced.

Tiendanube publishes its plans in pesos, with a 7-day trial on paid plans. With Pago Nube, its own processor, there’s no transaction fee, but Pago Nube charges its processing rate: from 3.99% + $3 + IVA on the Free plan, 3.49% on Básico, 3.39% on the Tiendanube plan and 3.29% on Avanzado.

WooCommerce is free and open source, with no platform fee and no revenue share. You pay for hosting, which WooCommerce estimates at US$25 to US$350 a month for most stores, any extensions you need, at US$29 to US$299 a year each, and your processor’s fees.

What do Stripe, Mercado Pago and Clip charge per sale?

The payment processor is the one that actually keeps a slice of every sale, so it pays to compare. These are their published rates for online payments:

ProcessorDomestic cardOXXO or cashBank transfer (SPEI)Notes
Stripe3.6% + $3 MXN + IVA4% + $3 MXN + IVA$7 MXN + IVA per transactionInternational cards +0.5%; interest-free installments from 5% for 3 months
Mercado Pago3.49% + IVA paid out instantly; 3.19% + IVA in 14 days; 2.95% + IVA in 30 days3.19% + IVA + $4 + IVA, in 3 daysAccepted, at the same rate as OXXO and depositsCharges only on approved sales; no fixed costs
Clip3.6% + IVA3.6% + IVANot detailed on its Checkout pageSame rate for credit, debit, vouchers, cash and international cards
Shopify Payments3.5% + $3 MXN on BasicN/AN/AShopify stores only

Sources: Stripe, which states that all its fees exclude IVA; Mercado Pago; Clip; and Shopify. Here’s what that looks like on a $1,000 MXN sale, adding 16% IVA where the processor publishes its fee before tax:

How you’re paid $1,000 MXNApproximate fee
Card through Stripe$45.24
Card through Mercado Pago, paid out in 14 days$37.00
Card through Mercado Pago, paid out instantly$40.48
Card through Clip$41.76
Card through Shopify Payments, Basic plan$38.00 (Shopify doesn’t say on its page whether tax is included)
OXXO through Stripe$49.88
OXXO through Mercado Pago$41.64
Bank transfer through Stripe$8.12

Two ways to pay less. If you sell big-ticket items or to businesses, bank transfers cost far less than cards. And interest-free installments (meses sin intereses) help close sales, but they’re not free: with Stripe, they run from 5% for 3 months up to 12.5% for 12 months, so offer them only where your margin can take it.

How much does shipping cost?

It depends on weight, size, destination and carrier, so there’s no single figure. What you do need to decide before launch is how you’ll charge customers for it:

  • Free shipping over a set amount, building the cost into your product prices.
  • A flat rate by zone or per order, easy to understand even if you lose a little on distant deliveries.
  • Carrier-calculated rates at checkout. On Shopify, real-time third-party carrier rates are listed as an Advanced plan feature.
  • In-store pickup, with no shipping cost. At Matilda, customers choose a branch and whether to pick up or get delivery.

Don’t forget packaging, voided labels, returns and the time of whoever packs the orders.

How much work do product photos and listings take?

More than it looks. Every product needs photos, a name, a description, a price, variants like size or color, a weight for shipping rates and stock levels. With 20 products it’s an afternoon; with 500, it’s a project.

To start, phone photos with good natural light and the same plain background across all of them work better than mismatched professional shots. And write descriptions that answer what people ask you on WhatsApp today: dimensions, materials, delivery times and exchanges.

What does the $17,999 MXN “Your online store” package include?

It’s our fixed-price, one-time-payment store package. According to our pricing page, it includes:

  • Up to 10 sections with a custom premium design, responsive on mobile and desktop.
  • An online store on Shopify or WooCommerce, an integrated payment gateway and product and inventory management.
  • Technical and content SEO, a blog, Google Business Profile setup and visitor tracking.
  • A monthly sales and visits report.
  • Hosting, a free domain for the first year, security certificate, email on your domain, automatic backups and unlimited traffic.
  • Premium maintenance, a contact form, a WhatsApp button and social media integration.
  • 2 rounds of revisions and training so you can run your store.

It’s delivered in about two weeks once we have all your content; if anything is missing, we help you prepare it. Hosting, domain, certificate, email, backups and maintenance are covered for the first year after launch, and before that year ends we tell you what renewing them costs. A Shopify plan and payment fees, if any, are yours. An invoice (factura) is available on request, and we fix, free of charge, any defect you report within 60 calendar days of launch.

One practical difference between the two platforms: with WooCommerce there’s no monthly platform plan, because the store runs on the hosting the package includes for the first year. With Shopify, the plan is paid separately from day one. We help you choose based on your catalog and how you sell.

When does a custom store make sense?

When the way you sell doesn’t fit a template. Translate3D ran its operation by hand, and off-the-shelf solutions didn’t work for it: it needed a high-quality online store and, at the same time, control over inventory, quotes, users and orders. We built a store designed from scratch, with no templates, on Shopify as its commercial base, plus a dashboard where the team sees inventory with every movement, tracks each quote from start to finish and knows who’s involved in every order.

These are the signs something like that fits you:

  • You sell to businesses and need to quote before you charge.
  • Your prices change by customer, volume or branch.
  • Your online inventory has to match your warehouse, your production or your physical store.
  • You want a loyalty program, gift cards or ordering by branch, like Matilda.

Pricing depends on scope. As a reference, a larger project starts from about $15,000 MXN, and a complete system, with store, inventory and quotes connected, from about $25,000 MXN, paid in stages. You get the exact price in writing after the free consultation. If you also run a physical store, see our retail software.

How do you build your first-year budget?

  1. Build: the package or project price, once.
  2. Platform: the monthly plan times 12, or hosting if you run WooCommerce outside the package.
  3. Payment fees: your estimated sales times your processor’s percentage, plus the fixed fee times the number of sales, plus IVA.
  4. Shipping and packaging: average cost per order times the orders you expect.
  5. Photos and content: what it costs to produce them, even if it’s your own time.
  6. Renewals: what you’ll pay from the second year for hosting, domain and apps.
