Moneta vs WP Offload Media: which to use to offload WordPress media to S3 or R2 (2026)
Looking for a WP Offload Media alternative? We compare it with Moneta, our own plugin, on storage providers, existing media, pricing, licensing and support, and say when each one is the better pick.
What do WP Offload Media and Moneta do?
Both plugins offload WordPress media to S3-style cloud storage. When someone uploads an image, video or PDF to the media library, the plugin copies it to a bucket, a storage space you rent from Amazon, Cloudflare or another provider, and serves it from there. The bucket sits in your own account, and you pay Amazon or Cloudflare for storage separately.
WP Offload Media is made by Delicious Brains, now part of WP Engine. It has a free Lite version on WordPress.org with more than 30,000 active installations, plus a paid version. Moneta is our plugin: a free core for Amazon S3, and paid licenses that add Cloudflare R2, CloudFront custom URLs, a configuration lock and an S3 object browser.

Which storage providers does each one support?
Out of the box, WP Offload Media supports Amazon S3, DigitalOcean Spaces and Google Cloud Storage, in both Lite and the paid version. It serves files through Amazon CloudFront or any CDN (a network of servers that delivers files from the location closest to each visitor) with a custom domain, and Cloudflare is on its list of recommended CDNs.
Cloudflare R2 isn’t on its list of storage providers. For other S3-compatible services, Delicious Brains publishes technical guides built on code filters, such as its Wasabi and MinIO guides. The Wasabi guide states that WP Offload Media doesn’t officially support Wasabi, and the MinIO article answers the “does it work with provider X?” question with “probably, if you use some filters, but we haven’t tried it.”
Moneta’s free core works with Amazon S3, including IAM mode for servers already set up on AWS (WP Offload Media can use server IAM roles too). Any paid license adds Cloudflare R2 support (custom endpoint and path-style) and CloudFront custom delivery URLs. Moneta’s page doesn’t list DigitalOcean Spaces or Google Cloud Storage, so if you use either one, WP Offload Media is the safer pick.
Why R2 matters to some sites: according to Cloudflare’s R2 pricing page, it doesn’t charge for egress, the data sent from R2 to the internet. If your site serves a lot of video or large downloads, that can show up on the bill.
What happens to the media you already have?
This is the biggest practical difference. WP Offload Media Lite only offloads new uploads: its WordPress.org listing says that on a site that’s been around for a while, existing files won’t be copied to or served from the bucket. The paid version adds a background uploader for the whole existing library, plus tools to remove local copies and download files back from the bucket.
Moneta takes a different approach. New uploads go to your bucket, and older files keep working from your server thanks to a local fallback, so nothing breaks on the day you switch. Moneta’s page doesn’t list a tool to move your existing library into the bucket in bulk, so plan on those older files staying on your hosting until you move them.
If the goal is to clear your hosting disk today, WP Offload Media’s paid version does it on its own. With Moneta, migration is a service we quote separately, as the Enterprise section of the Moneta page notes.
How much does each one cost per site?
The two count differently. WP Offload Media charges by offloaded media items, added up across every site where the license is active, and lets you use it on unlimited sites. One image counts as one item no matter how many sizes WordPress generates, and development or staging domains don’t count. These are its yearly plans in US dollars, with the first-year price for new customers in parentheses:
- Bronze: up to 2,000 items, $69 ($39). Standard email support.
- Silver: up to 6,000 items, $99 ($59). Standard email support.
- Gold: up to 20,000 items, $199 ($149). Priority email support and Assets Pull, which also serves your CSS, JavaScript and fonts from a CDN.
- Platinum: up to 40,000 items, $249 ($199).
- Adamantium: up to 100,000 items, $399 ($349).
- 500K: up to 500,000 items, $799.
- Unlimited: unlimited items, $1,199.
Moneta charges by site: Starter, 1 site, $89 a year or $9 a month; Pro, up to 10 sites, $279 a year or $29 a month; Agency, up to 50 sites, $949 a year or $99 a month. With every seat in use, that works out to $89, $27.90 and $18.98 per site per year.
Here’s how that plays out in common cases, at yearly prices:
| Your setup | WP Offload Media | Moneta |
|---|---|---|
| 1 site on Amazon S3, new uploads only | Lite: $0 | Free core: $0 |
| 1 site on Cloudflare R2 | R2 isn’t a listed provider | Starter: $89 |
| 1 store with 90,000 media items on S3 | Adamantium: $399 ($349 first year) | Starter: $89 |
| 10 small sites, 15,000 items in total | Gold: $199 ($149 first year) | Pro: $279 |
| 10 sites, 150,000 items in total | 500K: $799 | Pro: $279 |
| 40 sites, 30,000 items in total | Platinum: $249 ($199 first year) | Agency: $949 |
The pattern: WP Offload Media is cheaper when you run many sites with modest libraries, and Moneta is cheaper when a few sites carry large ones. Two things keep the math fair. WP Offload Media’s paid plans include the existing-library uploader, and anything you already offloaded with Lite counts toward your plan’s limit.
What happens when the license expires?
WP Offload Media is a yearly subscription that renews automatically. If you let it lapse, you lose updates and email support, but every feature keeps working as long as your offloaded items stay under your plan’s limit. If you hit the limit, essential features keep working and a few non-essential ones are disabled until you upgrade.
Moneta licenses are yearly or monthly. If a premium license expires, premium features lock until you renew, and the free core keeps working. If your site depends on a premium feature such as R2, renew on time. To move a license to another domain, deactivate it on the old one and activate it on the new one, within your plan’s site limit.
On refunds, WP Offload Media is more generous: 60 days, no questions asked. With Moneta, if within 14 calendar days of your first purchase the license can’t be made to work and we can’t solve it together, we refund you in full. The details are in our payments and refunds policy.
What support do you get?
WP Offload Media offers email support only, and only with a license: standard priority on Bronze and Silver, priority from Gold up. Lite users get the WordPress.org forum and no email support. Bronze and Silver work on multisite, but you need a higher plan to get support for a multisite install. Delicious Brains doesn’t offer site migration services.
Moneta support comes from us, by WhatsApp and email. Paid plans include priority support, and Pro adds faster onboarding help. Moneta is distributed privately: you ask us for the plugin and we send it with installation instructions. That’s less convenient than installing from WordPress.org, and Moneta has a much shorter public track record.
When is WP Offload Media the better choice?
- You need to move your existing media library into the bucket and free that space on your server.
- You use DigitalOcean Spaces or Google Cloud Storage.
- You sell downloads or run a membership site and need private files served through CloudFront or Google Cloud CDN.
- Your sites depend on its integrations: WooCommerce, Easy Digital Downloads, Elementor, Divi, WPML, Advanced Custom Fields and others.
- You also want your CSS, JavaScript and fonts served from a CDN, with Assets Pull on Gold and up.
- You manage many sites with small libraries: one license covers them all.
- You want a free plugin from WordPress.org with more than 30,000 active installs, and a 60-day refund.
When does Moneta fit better?
- You want Cloudflare R2 as your storage, with R2 support included in your license.
- A few sites carry large libraries: Moneta’s price depends on sites, not items.
- You want to test before switching: diagnostics check the bucket connection, write permissions, file reads and media paths before you turn on production delivery.
- You want to lock the configuration so nobody changes the bucket or credentials by accident in production.
- An S3 object browser would help, included in Pro and Agency.
- You prefer monthly billing, or paying in Mexican pesos.
- You want to talk directly to the people who build the plugin, by WhatsApp, in English or Spanish.
If you’re unsure, start free. Lite and Moneta’s core both offload new uploads to S3, so you can try either one on a staging site without paying anything.
How to decide in five minutes
- Write down your storage provider. R2 points to Moneta, Spaces or Google Cloud to WP Offload Media, and S3 works with both.
- Decide whether your existing files must move to the bucket. If yes, and you don’t want to do it by hand, get WP Offload Media’s paid version.
- Count your sites and the total items you’ll offload, then price both models with the tables above.
- List the plugins your sites depend on. If you need its integrations or private files, choose WP Offload Media.
- Test on a staging site first: WP Offload Media doesn’t count staging domains toward its limit.
See Moneta’s plans and pricing or message us with your setup. If WP Offload Media is the better fit, we’ll tell you.
Frequently asked questions
Yes, if you want to offload WordPress media to Amazon S3 or Cloudflare R2. Not if you need DigitalOcean Spaces, Google Cloud Storage, private files or a bulk upload of your existing library: WP Offload Media covers those, and Moneta’s page doesn’t list them.
Its site lists Amazon S3, DigitalOcean Spaces and Google Cloud Storage as storage providers, and Cloudflare only as a CDN. For other S3-compatible services it publishes guides that use code filters, without official support. Moneta includes R2 support with every paid license.
Not with either one. WP Offload Media Lite only offloads new uploads; the tool for your existing library is in the paid version. Moneta’s free core sends new uploads to S3 and keeps older files working from your server through the local fallback.
It depends on how many media items your sites add up to. With 10 sites and 15,000 items in total, WP Offload Media Gold costs $199 a year and Moneta Pro $279. With 10 sites and 150,000 items, WP Offload Media needs the $799 plan, while Moneta Pro stays at $279. Prices as of October 4, 2026.
No. Both use a bucket in your own Amazon, Cloudflare or other provider account, and you pay for that storage separately. With Moneta, you keep full control of your AWS S3 or Cloudflare R2 account.
